Nikolay Izvolov – a film expert and historian, graduated the cinema studies department of the VGIK screen-writing and cinema studies faculty. In the 1991 defended his dissertation for a scientific degree of art studies competition: «Interconnection of esthetic and non-esthetic factors in the evolution of the early cinematograph (1895-1932)».
He is the head of the cinema history and theory department in the Film Art Scientific Research Institute. He works on the development of such a scientific direction as a «dead» films reconstruction. He is also the author of the book «Cinema phenomenon: history and theory» (Moscow, 2005). He was a jury member in a number of international festivals.
Nikolay was a member of the II «Kinoproba» jury, he also visited the Festival in the 2008 and 2009 as guest. Each time Nikolay presents a retrospective program that consists of the reconstructed films.
